Stock Up, Stock Down: MLB Edition
OPENING DAY IS TODAY, WHICH TEAMS DO I LIKE & WHICH TEAMS DO I NOT?
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BASEBALL IS BACK!
Grab your hot dogs and peanuts and prepare for the 162 game marathon that is the baseball season. I have eight teams I would like to talk about today and a World Series prediction to offer to the masses.
Let’s begin.
STOCK UP: Rangers
Going to get the bias out of the way real quick…
The REIGNING, DEFENDING WORLD CHAMPION Texas Rangers are going 162-0 AND ARE ON THEIR WAY TO STARTING A DYNASTY THAT WILL LAST AGES!
Ok, but in all seriousness, the bats they have are hot and I don’t think they’ll be slowly down too much. The pitching rotation, while a little injured now, the Rangers still have six or seven quality starters available. (I really wish Jordan Montgomery stayed.)
STOCK DOWN: Orioles
Will the Orioles still be good? Yes. They will. There’s just something about a team being so young and good so fast that I don’t know if I can trust them to be as good as last year. I think we see some growing pains this year and a bit of a step back, around 88 to 92 wins this year I think. They’ll still make the playoffs though.
STOCK UP: Astros
The most powerful motivator is revenge. After losing the ALCS to their neighbors in North Texas. This team reloaded by signing Josh Hader for the bullpen and hiring a manager in-house.
STOCK DOWN: White Sox
With apologies to Jake Ramsey, Lane Ramsey and Levi Peckenpaugh, the White Sox are the worst team in the American League not named Oakland. It’s a real shame too because the South Siders deserve better.
STOCK UP: Cubs
The Cubs made some big moves this offseason, nabbing Craig Counsell, resigning Cody Bellinger and with the NL Central being a wee bit of a mess. The Cubs appear to be the favorite to win the NL Central. It should be an exciting summer at Wrigley Field this year for sure.
STOCK DOWN: Mets
IT’S THE NUMBER ONE SITCOM IN AMERICA: THE NEW YORK METS
Why would their stock ever be up? It’s time for another magical year of Mets memes and follies.
STOCK UP: Reds
The Reds have some hungry dogs on this team. Hunter Greene can pitch with the best of them, Elly De La Cruz is one of the most exciting young players in baseball. Christian Encarnacion-Strand is a big bopper entering his first full MLB season as well. This core has the potential to be a playoff with a few more moves. But De La Cruz will keep them in it for sure.
STOCK UP: Giants
The Giants have found a way to win the offseason somewhat despite the Dodgers really winning the offseason. San Fran has made some very solid acquisitions with Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, Blake Snell and Jung Hoo Lee as well as others. I think they’ll nab in the mix this season after a very disappointing 2023 campaign. Not to mention making Bob Melvin the manager. This team has 90 win potential.
WORLD SERIES PREDICTION: Dodgers over Astros
I mean if not now when for the Dodgers? You literally have everything.
Astros are here because they’re good and if I’m wrong, I’m happy about it.
